Privacy Policy
Effective: August 31, 2026
MacroGlance keeps your confirmed nutrition diary on your device. A food photo leaves your device only when you choose live photo analysis.
Who we are
MacroGlance is developed by SignalLab. Privacy questions can be sent to hello@thecognitivequest.com.
Data MacroGlance handles
- Food photos: When you choose live analysis, the selected or captured image is sent over HTTPS to the MacroGlance analysis service and then to Replicate's hosted Gemini vision model to create a nutrition estimate. Demo estimates do not upload a photo.
- Derived food queries: The service may send food names inferred from the photo and gram portion amounts to USDA FoodData Central to look up reference calories and macronutrients. USDA does not receive the photo, local diary, or an account identifier from MacroGlance.
- Nutrition diary: Meals, item names, calorie and macro estimates, corrections, and saved meals are stored locally in the app's encrypted private database on your device. Its random database passphrase is wrapped by a key held in Android Keystore.
- Technical request data: Hosting and analysis providers process request metadata such as IP address, approximate location inferred from IP address, timestamps, request status, duration, media type, and upload size to deliver, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
- App and device integrity: Live analysis uses Google Play Integrity to verify the app installation and reduce abuse. Google Play processes app metadata, licensing status, a request hash, and device-attestation information for this purpose.
MacroGlance does not currently use advertising or analytics SDKs and does not require an account.
How data is used and shared
Photos and derived food queries are used only to provide the live estimate you request and to operate and secure that service. Live analysis uses Vercel for hosting, Replicate for image analysis, USDA FoodData Central for selective nutrient lookup, and Google Play Integrity for app and device attestation. These providers process the applicable request data under their service terms. MacroGlance does not sell personal or sensitive data.
Storage, retention, and deletion
- The temporary app copy of a photo is deleted after analysis, cancellation, or demo fallback.
- The MacroGlance service processes uploaded photos in memory and does not intentionally save them to an application database. Replicate states that API prediction inputs, outputs, files, and logs are automatically removed after one hour by default.
- Under the current production plan, Vercel runtime logs are retained for up to one day. MacroGlance's operational entries contain a per-request identifier, status or result code, duration, media type, and upload size, but not the photo or nutrition result. Infrastructure providers may separately retain limited security records under their service terms.
- Your encrypted local diary remains until you use Delete local diary, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app. Android backup is disabled for this diary.
Your choices
You can use the labeled demo without uploading a photo, cancel an analysis, export your local diary, or permanently delete the diary inside the app. Because this release has no accounts and does not intentionally retain an application-level server record of your photos or diary, there is no remote account to delete.
Security and limitations
Network requests use HTTPS, uploads are size- and type-bounded, and provider credentials stay on the server. No security method is perfect. MacroGlance provides rough nutrition estimates for general tracking; it is not medical or allergen advice and should not be treated as exact.
Changes
We may update this policy as MacroGlance changes. The effective date above will identify the current version.
